A college in Staffordshire has become home to a rare species following the birth of two black lemurs.

The animal zone at South Staffordshire College's Rodbaston campus now finds itself being one of the very few zoos in the UK exhibiting the species. They are normally only found in the wilds of Madagascar and surrounding small islands off the African coast.

Proud parents Ramena and Amado are particularly pleased with their offspring as lemurs will typically produce only one baby at a time in the wild. The new arrivals have not yet been named. Many of the animals housed at the Animal Zone are of significant conservation value and South Staffordshire College actively takes part in breeding programmes in conjunction with other zoos, with animal keepers working hard to ensure the optimum conditions for all the animals.
