More than 300 homes were left without water for 10 hours after a water main burst in South Staffordshire.

Police had to stop drivers using The Parkway and Severn Drive, in Perton, yesterday afternoon when they became submerged in water.

Severn Trent spokeswoman Gill Dickinson said: "We discovered problems with a 12in water main in Severn Drive, Perton, at about 12.30pm. There had been a burst on the water main, which resulted in several hundred of our customers being temporarily without water.

"We managed to bring in water supplies from other parts of our network which meant that the majority of customers had their supplies restored around 3.30pm.

"Unfortunately, around 300 customers were without water until around 10pm that evening, as they were directly served by the section of damaged pipe.

"We were able to repair the main and reconnect everyone just after 10pm. We apologise to everyone aff-ected by the loss of supply, particularly those who had to wait until the evening."
