Britain's Got Talent finalists Stavros Flatley wowed their Black Country fans when they brought their unique hilarious dance act to the region. More than 450 people packed in to a Stourbridge venue last night to watch the father and son duo, who won the hearts of the nation and impressed the celebrity judges with their appearances on the TV talent show.
Made up of former restaurateur Demetri Demetriou and his 13-year-old son Lagi, the whacky duo perform their own comical take on Riverdance-style performances by famed Irish dancer Michael Flatley. And yesterday the pair performed their funny set before a sell-out crowd at the Chicago Rock Cafe in Stourbridge High Street.nextpage
The Greek Cypriots, who live in North London, made it to the live final of the UK-wide talent search and took part in the official Britain's Got Talent live tour of arenas throughout the country. They are now part way through a mini-tour of different Chicago Rock Cafe venues in the UK and Demetri, who owns an electrical engineering firm, says they still can't quite believe how their lives have changed.nextpage
"I still don't feel like it is real - every day I question it," he said. "It has been fantastic taking part in Britain's Got Talent and then having all the attention that goes with it and we are enjoying every second of it." Demetri said that their current schedule is "like a full time job". As a result, Lagi has had to take some time off from school and Demetri has asked his brother to temporarily take over the running of his electrical business.nextpage
Lagi said: "Now that it is the school holidays things will be a bit easier but when I go back in September, we are going to sort out a schedule that means I can work my education around everything else. School has been very supportive which is great." The double act said that prior to auditioning for Britain's Got Talent at London's Hammersmith Apollo theatre, they had only tried dancing together at home - and at the odd family wedding.nextpage
Despite their current star status, Lagi said he is keeping himself grounded and says he has aspirations beyond being an entertainer. "I think I would quite like to work for my father's business when I grow up," he said. "I'm torn at the moment between the electrical industry, being an entertainer or training to be a lawyer." Last night's performance was a huge hit with the audience, members of which climbed on chairs, tables and even the bar to get a better look at the dancers.
