Tettenhall and District Horticultural Society celebrates its first 100 years
It's been 100 years and counting!
Tettenhall and District Horticultural Society was formed in 1915 with two main objectives: Firstly, to promote the interests of allotment holders and gardeners, and secondly, to offer horticultural help and advice.
As times have changed so has our purpose. We now exist to bring like-minded people together to share knowledge of horticulture and cultivate new ideas, and to pass down information from one generation to the next.
The society is now the oldest in the area, with the largest membership.
We also hold one of the few remaining annual shows in the region, and this year it's on September 5.
Our Trading Hut in Nursery Walk, Tettenhall, is open for all members to buy general gardening products at very competitive prices.
On the last Friday of every month we hold a talk, usually at the Tettenhall Wood Institute.
We also organise a visit to a local garden for members every summer and full membership allows discounts at some local garden centres.
If you are not already a member, perhaps you would consider joining us and helping us to continue into the future? You will be made very welcome! Or if you'd like to support us in any other way, or you'd like to become more involved in our activities, then please speak to a committee member at the annual show or to anyone in the Trading Hut.
To celebrate the 100 year achievement, the society commissioned a book to chart our activities throughout our history.
The centenary book written by Pru Coleman, details the history of the society from its founding during World War One until the present day. It is a story of local events, people and places. Members from bygone days are remembered and current members recount their memories.
Copies of the book will be available from the end of June. You will be able to buy them from the Trading Hut or emailing wenonah.horticulture@yahoo.co.uk or Tel: 01902 746646.

Tettenhall and District Horticultural Society would like to express its grateful thanks to all members and helpers who have contributed to the smooth running of the society over the past year.
In particular we would like to thank all those who work so hard in the Trading Hut and those who make sure the annual show is successful.
The society has survived – and thrived – because of the dedication of past and present members.
Onwards and upwards, as they say on Gardeners' Question Time, for our next 100 years!
