Village is the dumping ground of Staffordshire, claim residents

A village in South Staffordshire, dubbed the dumping ground of Staffordshire for development by its residents, is facing another proposal.

A crematorium is the latest proposal for Essington.

Three proposed gipsy sites and extensions to the four that already exist, as well as a proposed road linking the M6, the M6 toll road, and the M54.

David Clifft, chairman of Essington Parish Council, said: "This is the latest in a long line of unwanted and unneeded planning applications for the village. We are currently involved in a consultation process over proposed gipsy and traveller sites, and Essington Parish Council are meeting with the Highway Agency next week to discuss the Government's proposals for the link road, and now this week we have received a planning application for a crematorium."

Councillor Clifft added: "If the gipsy sites are approved, Essington will have a total of seven sites, and if the Government gives the go ahead for the link road, Essington will have three motorways running around it, as well as a link road, and now a crematorium could also get the go ahead."
