Busy times
I've had a busy weekend, but good fun.
On Friday, we went to a church jumble sale at Holy Trinity Church on Oxford Street, Bilston. We've not been to a jumble in years and we picked up a couple of items that will be very useful as well as meeting people and having a very sociable evening. There must be something about that type of crowd that brings out the chattiness in folks.
On Saturday morning, I went to Bilston town to meet up with some of the Bilston Yarn Stars who were manning a stall in aid of Macmillan nurses. Some of the ladies had spent a lot of their spare time creating a selection of appetising goodies, all made from woollen yarn. It was very popular and they raised over £183. Now they are starting to concentrate on their next projects – watch this space!
On Saturday evening, we went to a concert by Wolverhampton Male Voice Choir - part of the 75th celebrations of St Martin's Church Parkfields. While St Martin's is not an old church it is a good example of the time it was built and is a listed building. The current incumbent is Rev Powell, who is also Padre to Wolverhampton Ex-service Council and Wolverhampton Royal British Legion Central Branch.
We had a lovely selection of music beautifully performed by the men and their lady pianist. Such a nice change from TV on a Saturday night for those of us not into night clubs etc.
It was good to find that the choir is supporting RBL poppy appeal as their current charity.
