WHY ARE SOME CRUEL TO DOGS?

The article in E&S on 18 January about Kailo the pup found rummaging through bins in Wolverhampton. Why do uncaring people just abandon their dogs/pets when they can take them to an animal sanctuary? If you can afford to feed yourself, you can feed your dog. In days gone, most dogs lived on the scraps left from the families meal and let's face it, there is no one actually starving in this country. Apart from scraps from the meal table, a tin of cheap dog food and some bread as a filling cost very little.

The biggest problem is, people buy or acquire a dog without giving a thought to how much it really cost for the upkeep. Failing that, please don't abandon your dog. They have just has many feelings, if not more than any human. Think twice, then think again, how would you feel if you were to be cast off by your family because, that is exactly what you do if you abandon your dog.

In reply to the correspondent on 9 January re. yapping dogs, he/she is annoyed at barking dogs. On a Sunday, I get fed up of older people coming from the pub singing, shouting and screaming late at night, fireworks set off anytime of day or night, children screaming at the top of their voice, they all call it "enjoying themselves", so why can't dogs enjoy their lives?

UPSET BY THIS HARROWING STORY

I read the harrowing story that has been printed in your newspaper. How can anyone leave a dog to starve to the point that it is left in the most appealing state that the dog has to be humanely put to sleep This is the most abhorrent case of cruelty. It was absolutely heart breaking to read. It has made me feel physically sick. I am a dog lover along with my children and was so upset reading this. The only positive is that the dog is free from pain and at peace. The person responsible should be locked away for good. Absolute disgrace!
