IMPORTANT FACTS ON FARMING

​During Prime Minister's questions the Two Faced one said he was listening to what farmers were saying about the increased tax burden they face having imposed on them by the Treasury following the Chancellor's Autumn Statemen. He didn't seem too receptive to any appeal on farmers’ behalf, saying that he needed to fund the public services that, along with everyone else, farmers need.

No surprises there then. Perhaps he needs some basic facts explaining to him. 

If farmers are put out of business and may become dependent on benefits, that's an extra call on benefits, meanwhile the food that farm could have produced would possibly have to be imported. 

Thus adding to the imports bill and having an adverse effect on our trade balance, not to mention adding to the carbon footprint. Doesn't help the net zero target then does it?

It wouldn't help Red Rachel's economic plan either.

So show you have got brain in government, act now, because if you stare down at the narrow corridor leading, you hope, to Net Zero. You might find yourself at Ground Zero instead with the knock on effect from farm closures through to production plants and retail workers too.

So, could be dangerous to rely on food imports rather than growing much our needs ourselves. One other thing about imports, who sets the price? And can you guarantee being friendly with everyone all the time?
