LETTER: We have lost a good MP
I am not a member of the Conservative Party, but it is clear there is infighting in the local organisation. It is happening in the Tory party all over the country with a motion of no confidence in the Moorlands MP recently. Now the Stafford MP Jeremy Lefroy is to stand down.
It is well known that Mr Lefroy voted Remain in the Referendum and seeks a moderate Brexit having accepted the result. The constituency having voted Leave a backlash might have been expected, but the voters were happy to send Mr Lefroy back to Westminster in 2017. Not suprising as he is a good constituency MP.
I can say unreservedly that I have found him fair and objective whenever I have approached him. He is well respected in the constituency as was his Labour predecessor, David Kidney.
But it appears he is not well respected by some of his fellow Tories. He received appalling abuse for his position on Brexit,
Still worse, he received a death threat which apparently was also levelled at his staff.
It is obvious this was intended to force him to change his ways, and it appears to have done this.
Stafford people should take note that not only have we lost a good public servant but that it appears arguments within his own party have led to this.
