LETTER: Our beliefs must be respected
Watching, listening and reading the news over the last few days it seems that some people are all excited that this country is no longer a Christian country, not even a religious country.
RE/RI is no longer taught as a proper lesson in schools.
I am not against the idea of also teaching humanity or atheism as long as they are all taught by a fully-qualified teacher in all faiths or beliefs or none.
Many do not realise that it was the Christian church that brought education to the masses through what were then Sunday schools.
These were not originally just to teach religion.
Look what is happening to the country, sorry, the people of the country – morality has gone out the window, respect for each other or any kind of authority near no longer exists.
There have always been some kind of youth gangs but not the kind that only have murder on their minds – knifings, shootings, a regular occurrence of men trying to snatch children off the street. In other words we are becoming a lawless society.
As with Christianity all other true religious faiths have taught love, respect and that life is to be lived with and for each other.
As a Christian I respect all other true religious faiths and I respect those who feel that they do not need religion or faith or that there is no such higher being that we know as God. But the none believers must also respect those who do believe.
