Why do we need the mayor of the West Midlands and the Lord Mayor of Birmingham both to attend the Gold Coast for the handover of the Commonwealth Games?

It seems strange that one entourage isn’t enough when it comes to junketing on the hard-pressed taxpayers of Birmingham.
We can’t get our bins emptied or our streets policed, but we can afford to double up on representation of who’s taking over the game’s flame.
I can feel an FOI request coming on to see just how much these junkets have cost us.
