Block should become flats
Has an opportunity been missed with Cavendish House? It has been empty now for many years and not fully occupied since the Inland Revenue moved out, now we hear it is to be demolished and a further shopping centre is planned even though there are empty units in West Bromwich, Wolverhampton and even Merry Hill.
On line shopping is forcing cut backs by many stores and the centres are becoming places to walk around and meet up for coffee and snacks rather than spending much money, so what chance yet another shopping centre. But there is and always will be demand for homes and Cavendish House could have been converted into flats ideal for singles or for student accommodation.
The structure of the building itself even now looks okay and I assume the internal walls could have easily have been altered to change from offices to flats, power and utilities would have been there already. It will not happen now but I feel it is a shame that we seem to have wasted the chance of doing some good with Cavendish House.
