Poor image given of Wolverhampton
Has anyone noticed a reduction in street drinking since the introduction of alcohol free zones in park ward and St Peters?
My observations suggest an increase as a result of the recent warm weather. Certainly there is no concern for the signs and the maximum penalty of £500 displayed, because it is unlikely ever to be enforced.
At best a drinker may have the alcohol confiscated but that is unlikely as there is almost no-one around to do it.
Like many other by-laws it is simply tolerated creating a poor image of the city. However in some cities enforcement officers operate a zero tolerance policy towards all aspects of anti-social behaviour and the result is clean, cycle-free pavements and a safe drug and alcohol free city centre.
Fines collected help to finance implementation and the economic benefits to traders and businesses are considerable.
