Put cameras in road signs
It is a frequent complaint, isn’t it? Speeding motorists who think with their legs – right foot, instead of with their brains.
Years ago, speed cameras were fitted to try to control this ‘disease’, but the public rebelled, and most were taken down. Now they are being re-introduced and the public are crying. Most of them have themselves to blame. Yesterday morning, as my wife and I were waiting for a bus in Rangeways Road, Kingswinford, a car came down the road at at least 50mph, on a stretch of road with very clear 20mph signs, because it is close to a school. The answer to the problem is for the police to be very devious and install cameras in the signs.
Nearby Bromley Lane is fairly straight, leading to a bad bend over a defunct railway bridge. A speed restriction sign was installed, that flashes if your speed is in excess of 30mph. Just drive along there and watch the brake lights. The fact that there are four well lit pedestrian crossings on Bromley Lane doesn’t stop the heavy right foot brigade, but the lights by the bridge do.
The people who complain about being caught driving in bus lanes do not deserve any sympathy either. One of the requirements of getting a driving licence is that you are able to see. All these people need to do is open their eyes.
