Letter: Will we sink ship to stop climbers?

So Theresa has finally set the date for invoking Article 50.

I predict that the next strategy which the Hard Brexiters will employ will be to generate bitterness, ill-feeling and animosity between the ordinary people of Britain and the ordinary people of Europe.

The strategy is already getting under way with Philip Hammond’s provocative and belligerent statements – “we won’t shrink from Brexit war”, “the British people have a great fighting spirit” and “the UK will not slink off like a wounded animal”.

Who is he to speak for the UK when it looks as if the United Kingdom may not be united much longer thanks to the machinations of the aggressive Hard Brexit minority?

Has anyone in Europe used such inflammatory language and the word “war”?

We voted to give up the privileges of being in the EU, they did not vote to expel us, quite the contrary, they begged us to stay, united.

If you resign from a club you cannot then accuse the club of punishing you because you no longer enjoy its privileges.

Get real and learn the facts of life!

I can only hope that the ordinary people of Britain and Europe will quietly go about their business, continue trying to promote international fellowship and resist the propaganda which the militants will be pouring out at every possible opportunity from now.

The ordinary UK citizens are now being bullied by a vociferous minority and forced to go in a direction which most of them did not choose.

I also hope that we don’t wake up in a couple of years to find that we have sunk the ship to stop any more refugees climbing aboard.
