Andy Richardson: Tom takes the lead over facemasks
Perhaps Boris Johnson and Michael ‘Govester’ Gove ought to have left the advice on masks to Hollywood A-Lister Tom Hanks.
Hanks, who has recovered from Covid-19, has been outspoken about those who do not wear then, saying he has “no respect” for that cohort.
Despite studies showing that face coverings lower rates of Covid-19 transmission, some people have refused to wear them.
“I don’t get it. I simply do not get it. It is literally the least you can do,” the actor, 63, said.
More Covid-19 coverage:
“If anybody wants to build up an argument about doing the least they can do, I wouldn’t trust them with a driver’s licence.
“I mean, when you drive a car, you’ve got to obey speed limits, you’ve got to use your turn signals, you’ve got to avoid hitting pedestrians. If you can’t do those three things, you shouldn’t be driving a car.
“If you can’t wear a mask and wash your hands and social distance, I’ve got no respect for you, man. I don’t buy your argument.”
The actor and his wife Rita Wilson, 63, tested positive and since recovering they’ve donated plasma as part of research efforts to develop a vaccine.
Why it’s taken our Government four months to reach the same conclusion is anyone’s guess.
We remain five steps off the pace, doing the right thing at the wrong time.
Remember clapping our care workers on Thursday evenings. Then, they were essential workers. Now Priti Patel has left them off the immigration visa list because she considers them insufficiently important. Anyone fancy wiping bottoms for £8.31 per hour?
Kent is being turned into a lorry park – The Farage Garage – as the reality of Brexit bites. Lest we forget, it’s all about taking back control of our borders, our laws, our money and giving £350 million per week to the NHS. Getting a trade deal will be the easiest thing since crying in an onion slicing factory and a frictionless trade deal is oven-ready. That’s what they told us.
So, some may find it surprising that we’re spending £705m for Brexit customs and £8bn for No Deal prep.
That’s on top of £11.8m for a failed NHS app, £20m on failed Dyson ventilators and £500m for the wrong kind of satellites.
Oh yes, and there was £900k for Boris’s aeroplane paint job.
Can someone lend the Government a credit card?
