Merry Christmas from everyone at the Express & Star
Merry Christmas to all our readers.
It’s been another turbulent year but perhaps, at long last, the country might now be in a position to move on from the political turmoil and toxic discourse that has dominated the last three years.
Whether you were happy with the election result or not, it provided a clear result and has given Boris Johnson a solid mandate to – you guessed it – get Brexit done.
It has been the most divisive issue of modern times but surely now as a country it is time to move forward, and focus on other issues which have been allowed to fade into the background.
Locally, 2020 promises to be a crucial year.
Work should begin on the £55m Westside development set to transform part of Wolverhampton city centre, while the new train station is completed and opened to the public.
Construction will also get going again on the Midland Metropolitan Hospital in Smethwick after being left abandoned for two years.
Progress on efforts to extend the West Midlands Metro and re-open dormant stations will also continue as the region counts down to the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
While there has been plenty to cause frustration in 2019, we have at least been able to rely on our football teams – Wolves and West Brom have performed admirably this year.
And after three in five years one thing we can rule out in 2020 is another election. Right?
