Drivers face hour of delays on M6 after horse box overturns

Drivers faced more than an hour of delays after a horse box overturned on the M6 at the link for the M5.

Traffic was temporarily stopped at around 11am on the southbound route at M6 Junction 8 as traffic officers rushed to the scene.

The incident happened between Junction 8 to Junction 7 for Great Barr which caused almost nine miles of congestion.

A spokesman for Highways England said: "An overturned horse box on the M6 southbound within J8 (M5 link) in the West Midlands, has resulted in lane one (of three) being closed past the scene

"Highways England traffic officers are on scene to assist with traffic management. Recovery are currently on scene and are in the process of recovering the vehicle.

"There is approximately 8.8 miles of congestion on approach to the incident leading back to J11. There are currently delays of over 60 mins above normal travel time.

"Road users are advised to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra time and consider alternative routes if possible."
