Seriously injured driver found lying on M54 after two-car crash
Two men have been taken to hospital following a crash on the M54 - which left one of them lying on the carriageway.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the two-car smash on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway, between junctions three and two near Shifnal, at 11.45pm yesterday.
One of the men, who was driving one of the cars involved, was found lying in the road with serious injuries.
He was treated at the scene before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
The driver of the other vehicle was treated at the scene for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton, WMAS said.
Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor were sent to the scene.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Jamie Arrowsmith said: “Crews arrived to discover two patients, both men, one of whom was found lying on the carriageway.
“He was the driver of one of the cars and was treated for serious injuries before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, for further care.
“The second patient, who was the driver of the second car, was treated at the scene for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to New Cross Hospital as a precaution.”
West Mercia Police did not attend the incident.
