Railway chiefs warned services could be be cancelled, delayed or revised, due to the line currently being blocked.

The wire damage is currently affecting trains in both directions and the disruption is expected until the end of the day.

It means the service between Liverpool Lime Street and Birmingham New Street can't run properly, people were warned.

West Midlands Railway said on their website: "Services are running at a reduced speed, so that Network Rail can investigate the previous overhead wire damage.

"Network Rail have assessed the damage and have advised that the line will be blocked for electric trains, so our Liverpool Lime Street – Birmingham New Street, Crewe – Birmingham New Street services in both directions will be disrupted."
