A photograph shared by CMPG showed the vehicle overturned on its side, with two ambulances in the background. The extent of any injuries is not yet known.

Cones were placed around the scene of the crash while a blanket of snow was seen on the road surface.

Gritters have been out across the region but steady snow throughout Sunday made for dangerous conditions across the road network.

Many roads were left completely covered in snow, including in Wednesbury where police were sent to a crash at Steel Roundabout.

Emergency services urged people to only travel when absolutely necessary.
