New images show progress of HS2 in West Midlands

New images have shown the progress of HS2 in the West Midlands as the "forward momentum" of the rail line has been praised by project chiefs.

The photographs show work is under way to create a station for the high-speed railway at Curzon Street in Birmingham and at the Interchange in Solihull.

Other work on the controversial line has taken place near the M25, Long Itchington in Warwickshire and on two other stations at Old Oak Common and London Euston.

The project has been praised for its progress by HS2 Ltd chiefs after it continued amid the challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic.

This year has seen HS2 announce it would recruit 22,000 new jobs as a result of full construction, with the line set to cut through Staffordshire.

The claim, however, has been disputed by campaigners from the Stop HS2 pressure group who said the project would "displace" the same number of jobs.

Planning permission has been granted for new stations at Old Oak Common in North London, Interchange in Solihull and Curzon Street in Birmingham.

And total of 1.5 million lorries have been taken off Britain’s roads after the company chose to use 15,000 freight trains instead to move 10 million tons of aggregate, project chiefs have said.
