New traffic-busting link road opens in Kidderminster
A new link road hailed as a traffic-busting initiative for motorists has opened up in a Midlands town.
The access road has opened in Kidderminster connecting the A456 Ringway to Churchfields from the island by Trinity Methodist Church Centre.
Under new plans, Churchfields is also being converted to an A-road while Blackwell Street, which stretches from the island to Radford Avenue, will be closed to eastbound traffic. Roadworks including one-way systems are currently in place as part of the transport improvement plans.
Councillor Ken Pollock, economy boss at Worcestershire County Council, said: "The improvements that are being made to the transport links in the area will not only help to tackle congestion and improve traffic flow but they are also an extremely important step towards delivering new homes in the area."
The initiatives are being made under Churchfields Highway Improvement Scheme.
Council bosses say this will also help to bring new homes to the area and reduce pollution in Horsefair, one of the most polluted parts of Worcestershire.
Councillor Fran Oborski, deputy leader of Wyre Forest District Council and cabinet member for economic regeneration, planning and capital investments, added: "I welcome the progress being made on this important scheme and I am looking forward to seeing its completion as it will help ease traffic congestion and deliver much needed new homes on this sustainable brownfield site.
"It will also help in relieving pollution in the Horsefair which has some of the worst air pollution in the county."
The new link road opened on Tuesday.
