Gateways – which narrow the road width – will help slow traffic on the B5014 and the D3191 in Hill Ridware.

It will be introduced alongside speed cushions over seven weeks, starting from June 22.

The gateway will see the speed on the route reduced rom 60mph to 40mph and then to 30mph through the village.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport Helen Fisher said: "Ensuring our roads are safe is a top priority to us and we’re pleased to see this scheme introduced in Hill Ridware.

"It will mean traffic is slowed down through the village and the community will feel safer and be safer. It is a comprehensive scheme and the works period will be seven weeks, so we’d like to thank people in advance for their patience.

"We’re confident that this will bring long-term benefits to residents of Hill Ridware."
