Temporary traffic lights have been put in place on a Walsall road due to the risk of a former pub collapsing.

Part of Wednesbury Road has been cordoned off in Pleck due to the unstable former Brown Lion pub next to the road, with Walsall Council warning the problem is unlikely to be fixed quickly.

Around 100 metres of the road is shut for eastbound drivers between Caledon Street and the A4148 Old Pleck Road but is open for people travelling west.

Drivers heading towards Walsall town centre thus face a one-mile diversion via Bescot Road, Wallows Lane and Bescot Crescent.

The bus stop adjacent to Caledon Street has been suspended and the stop adjacent to Prince Street was also set to be removed from use.

Delays are expected at both the junction of Pleck Road and Wednesbury Road and on the diversion route, Walsall Council said.
