Police warning after four children have near miss with fast train in Stafford
Transport police are warning parents to make their children aware of the dangers of train crossings - after four youngsters had a near miss just as the summer holidays get underway.
The children were crossing a line near Stafford early Monday morning when a fast train came travelling along the tracks.
The incident was reported to British Transport Police at 07.05am and officers carried out a search of the area but found no one in connection with the incident.
It drew alarm from the transport police officers,as schools only broke up for summer last week, and a near miss for children has already occurred on the first day of their break.
Transport police issued a warning to parents by taking to social media site Twitter and tweeted: "Day 1 of #summerholidays 07.05, five mins into shift and X4 children had a near miss from a fast train. PLEASE educate your children #YouVsTrain . Lines are dangerous. We are patrolling the patch all summer @WestMidRailway @VirginTrains @CrossCountryUK @networkrail"
A spokesman for BTP added: “The incident happened near Stafford – reported at 7.05am. Officers attended and conducted a thorough area such with Network Rail, no one was traced. Enquiries continue.”
