Driver escapes as half of car ends up in field after splitting in A34 crash
Somehow neither of the drivers involved are thought to have been seriously injured.
Half of a car ended up in a field after it split in two during a crash on a busy Staffordshire road.
The other half of the Ford Focus overturned and stayed on the A34 Stafford Road, near Pine Trees Farm at Huntington, after colliding with a Fiat Punto.
Two ambulances were sent to the scene, just after the Pottal Pool roundabout, at around 8.20pm on Wednesday.
The driver of the split car, a man in his 40s, was able to get out of the wreckage himself, before being taken to the major trauma centre in Stoke as a precaution.
A woman in her 50s who was driving the other car had to be cut free by firefighters before being taken to hospital in Wolverhampton.
A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: " “When crews arrived they found two cars that had suffered significant damage.
"One car had split in two with one half overturned with the other half in a field.
“Somehow the driver, a man in his 40s, had managed to get out of the wreckage himself.
"He was assessed at the scene before being taken to the major trauma centre at Royal Stoke University Hospital as a precaution, although initially his injuries did not appear to be too serious.
“Ambulance staff worked with firefighters to extricate the driver of the other car, a woman in he 50s.
"She was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken on blue lights to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton."
Police officers, two fire engines from Cannock and a fire officer attended the scene.
