Cadent Gas were called out to the A41 Tettenhall Road, at the junction with Henwood Road and Lower Street, at around 6.30am on Wednesday.

The emergency works are expected to take three days to complete, meaning that temporary traffic lights are in place to keep traffic moving.

The road is a key route into Wolverhampton, taking drivers from the M54 into the city centre via Cosford and Tettenhall.

Meanwhile traffic lights stopped working on Willenhall Road during rush hour on Wednesday.

Commuters had to navigate through the busy junction for Deans Gate when the lights went out.

Wolverhampton Council spokeswoman, Danielle Taylor, said: "Due to a traffic signal fault, the traffic signals on Willenhall Road at Deans Road junction were out Wednesday morning.

"Our emergency out of hours team contacted our contractors who attended the site at 7:49am and completed the repair at 8:06am."
