Gas network Cadent is working to replace 1.5kms of gas pipes in Wolverhampton's Worcester Street.

Its next phase of work, which is expected to last one month, will see engineers replace gas pipes towards Little Brickkiln Street.

It will mean there will be lane closures and parking space restrictions between Cleveland Street and Pitt Street.

There will also be no left turn for HGVs and buses from Pitt Street to Worcester Street, the company said.

Craig Horrocks, who heads up Cadent’s gas mains replacement project in the West Midlands, said: “We would like to thank people for bearing with us – we greatly appreciate their patience and understanding during this essential work.

“This is a complex project and as a result of a number of engineering complications, the project is due to be completed in May and not March as originally anticipated. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused."

The company's 10-month project comes as as part of a £65 million investment in the West Midlands.

The iron gas pipes, thought to have been laid in the 19the century, will be replaced with tough plastic ones which will last at least 80 years.
