Passengers stranded as train cancellations and crowded carriages cause chaos
Train passengers complained of packed trains and up to 100 people stuck on a railway station, after train services were cancelled and carriages crowded.
The disruption today followed a cancelled 10.54 Transport for Wales (TfW) Rail service from Telford to Birmingham, with problems exacerbated when the next service on the route comprised only two carriages.
A spokesman for TfW confirmed the service had been cancelled.
A number of people took to social media to complain that the West Midlands Railway service that followed was too crowded to get on, leaving people stranded at Telford, Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton stations among others.
One Twitter user, @olivialrobertsx, posted from Telford Central station after the cancellation: "Over 100 people waiting for a train that hasn’t turned up and is now delaying all of the trains after it. People have jobs and homes to get to."
TfW advised people on Twitter who suffered delays of more than 30 minutes to arrange compensation at tfwrail.wales/delay-compensation
Later the 12.25 TfW train from Birmingham to Aberystwyth was cancelled because of a shortage of staff.
