All four northbound lanes on the motorway had to be closed after a crash involving two vehicles left a van overturned.

The collision happened at around 11.40am between junctions 10 and 10a near Wolverhampton and Walsall.

Officers managed to reopen lane four by 12.10pm, allowing traffic to start moving.

And by 1.15pm only one lane remained closed while officers attended the scene.

But the route was not fully open again until shortly before 2.30pm.

A Highways England spokesman said at 1pm: "Commuters are currently experiencing delays of around 30 minutes.

"We advise that people should leave extra time for their journey.

"We're working hard to clear the area as soon as possible."

The extent of any injuries are not yet known.
