Man taken to hospital as M6 lorry crash causes long delays
A man was rushed to hospital after a multi-vehicle crash on the M6 today.
A Vauxhall Astra and an HGV crashed just before Junction 10A on the motorway near Walsall shortly after 1pm.
The driver of the Astra, who got out of the car himself, was taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton where he was treated for minor injuries. No one else was hurt in the accident.
Drivers experienced delays as three of four lanes were shut northbound while emergency service cleared the route but the road was cleared after nearly two hours.
Motorists driving up the M5 were also delayed for up to 40 minutes as a result of the lane closures.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called by Staffordshire Police to reports of a collision between a car and a HGV just before Junction 10A northbound.
"One ambulance attended. We have treated one male patient who is from the car and managed to get himself out.
"He was treated for minor injuries at New Cross Hospital."
A West Midlands Police spokesman added: "Officers from the Central Motorway Police Group responded to a report of a road traffic collision on the M6 northbound between junctions 10 and 10a at around 1pm today.
"A Vauxhall Astra has collided with a lorry but fortunately the car driver only experienced minor injuries."
