Stafford to Wolverhampton railway line blocked after man hit by train
An elderly man has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a train.
Trains were halted between Wolverhampton and Stafford after the incident at Penkridge Railway Station.
Passengers were warned of disruption on the railways with the line blocked in both directions.
Cross Country Trains and officials from Birmingham New Street station were advising customers of possible delays and cancellations.
Emergency services were called to the station, off Station Road, at around 9.25am today.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray McGregor said the man had been treated for 'multiple serious injuries'.
He was taken by the Midlands Air Ambulance to the trauma centre in Royal Stoke Hospital for further treatment.
The rail line was blocked for around an hour but had reopened by 10.40am.
