Driver Steve Browne recorded the Volkswagen Golf as it nearly hit oncoming traffic head-on while trying to overtake just outside Shifnal.

Mr Browne, from Telford, recorded the footage on his dashcam as he drove on the A464 Shifnal to Wolverhampton Road on Saturday night.

It all happened at about 5.20pm.

In the recording, Mr Browne is seen following a small queue of traffic when the dark-coloured car speeds past him and attempts to further overtake the car in front.

But quickly, headlights can be seen coming from the opposite direction and the car ends up seconds away from a head-on smash with the cars travelling in the right-hand lane.

Cars travelling on the left are seen to brake and move toward the verge to allow the car to pass by, while the driver who comes face-to-face with the reckless driver flashes his lights.

Mr Browne said: "It all happened very quickly so, at the time, we thought the driver was an idiot and it came close to a serious accident.

"When we actually looked at the video we realised how close it actually was.

"We often use that road, but have never seen any overtaking as reckless as that."

Mr Browne said he hasn't passed the footage on to the police as the footage has not managed to capture the driver's numberplate.

He said he would be keen to see if any of the other motorists on the road also managed to capture dashcam footage.
