Major restrictions on M5 for works between West Bromwich and Oldbury
Major restrictions were coming into force on the M5 this weekend as part of an 18-month roadworks scheme.
All traffic was being been moved onto the northbound carriageway between junctions one and two at West Bromwich and Oldbury, with two lanes running in each direction.
The motorway is also being cut to two lanes from junction three at Halesowen to limit the amount of vehicles approaching the roadworks zone.
The scheme to repair Oldbury viaduct started at Easter, but so far drivers have faced minimal disruption, with the speed limit cut to 40mph but all lanes still open.
Highways England senior project manager, Zbigniew Twarowski, said: “We appreciate this will cause some delays but we’re doing everything possible to keep traffic moving, minimise disruption and maximise safety.
“Drivers are urged to plan journeys in advance, allow extra time and consider alternative modes of transport, car sharing or working from home where possible.”
