A boy and a girl were sent to New Cross Hospital, as well as a man and woman in their 40s after the crash on the eastbound carriageway between Junction 3 for Cosford and Junction 2 for Wolverhampton at around 8.50am.

Jamie Arrowsmith, a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said they had reports of six patients complaining of neck and back pain.

"We were called to the scene by Shropshire Fire and Rescue at 8.52am," he said.

"Fire service said that there were six patients - they had shut off the road so there is a lot of traffic in the area.

"Two young children, a boy and a girl, were taken to New Cross with minor injuries.

"Another patient was a man in his 40s who was driving one of the vehicles. He was treated for neck and back pain, immobilised and sent to New Cross.

"There was also a woman in her 40s who was a passenger in one of the cars. She was treated for back pain and taken to New Cross.

"Three ambulances attended and the last vehicle left the scene at about 10.35am."

Three fire crews were sent to the crash, including two from Telford and one from West Midlands Fire Service.

Nobody involved was trapped in their vehicle when firefighters arrived.
