Coach fire closes M5

A coach fire on the M5 closed the motorway in both directions, causing severe delays.

The blaze between Junction 4 for Bromsgrove and Junction 3 for Halesowen on the northbound carriageway broke out around 7pm yesterday evening.

The northbound carriageway was closed for two hours, with delays of more than 50 minutes. All three lanes had reopened by 9.50pm.

The southbound carriageway was closed for a short time due to smoke and debris from the fire.

The coach was not carrying any passengers at the time of the fire and the driver was not injured.
