Calls made for extra buses on busy route
A petition has been launched calling on National Express to put on extra services on a major Wolverhampton route.
Parent James Finch says his daughter has had to battle crowds and often misses buses due to not enough number 1 services at peak times on Tettenhall Road.
More than 100 people have now signed an online petition at change.org, calling for more services to be added to the route.
The petition states: "The number 1 bus service, run by National Express, cannot currently cope with the number of students that use this service to go to the four secondary schools off Tettenhall Road.
"Buses are full and do not stop to collect crowds of waiting passengers. When a bus stops, the pupil push each other to get on board causing a health and safety risk.
"Pupils become delayed in getting to school. National Express has an obligation to meet the needs of its customers who have bought bus passes as well as a moral obligation to the children who wait for the buses to ensure their safety.
"Headteachers of the schools have requested a better service but these requests have so far not been met."
A total of 114 people have signed the petition so far.
Mr Finch, aged 40, said his young daughter commutes from Exhall in Coventry by train and then catches the number 1 to Wolverhampton Girls School.
The married teacher said: "My daughter started at one of the schools in Tettenhall and there have be several incidents of her trying to get on the bus with pushing and shoving.
"She has mentioned that there have been times when she was late for school because the buses go past because they are full, and that has resulted in crowds and occasions when children have been pushed into the road.
"During those times in the morning there are high amounts of people out for those buses and the amount of buses that are sent are not enough."
Mr Finch, who said that he was hoping that a 'couple of hundred' people would sign the petition, added: "People that I have spoken to say this has been happening for a year and I am very surprised that this has been tolerated."
