WATCH: Plane swerves on runway as strong winds hit Birmingham Airport

This is the moment a plane swerved on the runway at Birmingham Airport after being caught in a strong cross wind while landing.

The turbo-prop aircraft, operated by Flybe, was approaching the runway when the blustery conditions temporarily affected the steering system.

Officials said the plane, from Dusseldorf, in Germany, had been struck by a strong cross wind from the right causing a crabbing action and a sharp veer to the right on landing.

The crew managed to stop the plane from leaving the runway.

Captain Chris Coney-Jones, Flybe's General Manager Fleets, said: "The safety of our passengers and crew are our obvious number one priority.

"Taking off and landing in strong and gusty winds is all in a day's work.

"Our pilots are highly trained and have the necessary skills and training required to assess and make the required operation decisions to conduct a safe flight in such adverse weather conditions
