All three lanes were briefly blocked following the accident causing delays of more than 30 minutes.

Police arrived to help marshal traffic as paramedics treated the man for neck and back pain.

Highways Agency workers cleared one lane northbound a short time after the accident.

But queues of traffic quickly built up from past Great Barr and towards junction six for the Aston Expressway.

Lanes had been cleared by 8.15am but motorists were still being warned of delays.
