Crossing repair at Cradley Heath station hit by delays

Rail users and drivers have been told they will have to wait until later this week for a damaged level crossing next to Cradley Heath station to be reopened.

Drivers who regularly use the crossing on Wood Lane have already been facing long detours and delays over the last two weeks after National Rail took the decision to close it.

The barriers at the crossing were damaged by a van that crashed into them on Monday, January 13. Since then motorists have been left to find alternative routes, while people in wheelchairs and families with prams, who are unable to use the station's footbridge, have been told to travel to other stations with better access.

Network Rail initially said that engineers were working to fix the barriers and that they would be quickly re-opened, but has since said that the repairs have run into delays as they wait for parts to be delivered.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: "We apologise for the disruption.

We hope to reopen the level crossing in the early part of next week."
