Demolition work was carried out on the former bridge in Station Road, Hednesford, over Christmas.
Its replacement will be higher in order to take traffic over the electric wires. Work on the bridge is due to continue until the end of March.
Network Rail is electrifying 15 miles of railway between Walsall, Hednesford and Rugeley Trent Valley.
The line will be closed for short periods on Sunday mornings in the spring to allow work to be completed safely. Electrification work will get underway in 2015.
