The silver Peugeot was travelling northbound near the Ray Hall Lane interchange at Great Barr at around 4.15pm yesterday when smoke began to come from the bonnet.

She pulled over to investigate before the car became completely engulfed in flames. Two crews from West Bromwich Fire Station were sent to the scene.

Watch Commander Carl Smith said: "The female driver noticed smoke coming from the bonnet and after she pulled over, part of the engine burst into flames.

"Firefighters had to use foam to put out the fire. The car was completely destroyed by the heat and the flames."
