Rowley Regis railway car park expansion will begin this year
Work on a £3 million car park extension at the busy Rowley Regis railway station, including an extra 360 spaces, will start before the end of the year – earlier than expected.
Sandwell Council's planning committee approved the scheme in June, from transport authority Centro, to increase the Station Road car park to a total of 708 spaces.
Councillor Roger Horton, who oversees rail for Centro, told a meeting of Sandwell's full council last night that work would begin before the end of this year, and was expected to take around 12 months in total to complete.
He said: "We will be starting before the end of the year."
The extra car parking space will be constructed on disused land adjoining the current site. It follows the success of the park and ride system at the site.
