Major delays as M6 is hit by two crashes
Motorists were forced to sit through major delays this afternoon after two crashes took place within 500 metres of one another on the M6 northbound.
One person has been taken to Stafford Hospital after a four-car smash happened between junctions 12 for Gailey and 13 for Stafford near Penkridge shortly before 2pm.
Firefighters had to cut the patient free from the vehicle before the person was treated by ambulance crews and sent to hospital for minor leg injuries.
Two lorries have also collided a short distance north of junction 12. One of the vehicles was leaking chemicals and the junction was closed.
The left hand lane between junctions 12 and 13 was reopened to allow traffic already on the motorway to pass through.
Cars involved in the four-vehicle smash were two Skoda Fabias, a BMW three series and a Mercedes A Class.
