Vandals spark rail chaos between Kidderminster and Worcester
Vandals caused rush-hour disruption for hundreds of passengers on trains between Kidderminster and Worcester today after attacking signals near Stourport.
Services were halted completely for around four hours after copper cabling to the signals was cut at Hartlebury.
And even after they resumed at about 9.15am, some services were still suspended as just one train at a time was able to pass through while repair work continued.
Passengers were taken by bus between Worcester and Kidderminster.
Network Rail spokesman Ben Herbert said: "This was vandalism – someone attempted to cut through the cable, although we don't think they stole any.
"It's caused disruption, not only between Worcester and Kidderminster but further along the line to Snow Hill in Birmingham and Solihull."
