Trains were delayed today following ongoing signal faults.

Services on the Rugeley to Birmingham route suffered delays, with some London Midland services terminating at Hednesford and not calling at Rugeley Town or Rugeley Trent Valley.

It followed problems near Walsall which began at 7.25 last night that caused delays, with replacement buses and coaches used.

Network Rail said the signalling power supply was lost intermittently, affecting all lines yesterday. Signalling and telecoms staff have been working to identify the cause. Early morning and peak time trains were affected today with the 8.08, 8.39 and 9.06 services starting at Hednesford rather than Rugeley Trent Valley.

After the problem along the line was first encountered last night, buses were used to ferry commuters. It is believed a defective cable caused the issue and repairs were due to be completed this morning to enable a full service to resume.
