Engineers have been cutting about 15cm off the platforms so that they can accommodate a larger fleet of trams due to come into use next year.
The Metro line between Wolverhampton and Birmingham Snow Hill was closed to prepare platforms for the new £40m fleet of bigger trams in 2014
The new 20-strong Spanish-built fleet will allow for 10 services an hour. The new Urbos 3 trams are 8ft 8ins wide and therefore bigger than the old Italian built T69 trams, which are 8ft 2ins wide.
There was frustration for passengers over the Easter weekend because just no trains ran between Wolverhampton and Birmingham.
But Centro said it chose the Easter holidays because it was the quietest period on the Metro.
