Long delays on M6 after lorry and cars crash
Thousands of drivers faced long delays after separate crashes on the M6 today.
A lorry and two cars crashed on the southbound carriageway between junctions seven for Great Barr and eight for where the motorway joins with the M5 for West Bromwich, just before 5.20am.
The middle and outside lanes had to be closed, causing delays of up to 35 minutes with queues stretching back to junction 10 for Walsall.
This was followed by a three-car shunt between junctions 10 and 10a for Wolverhampton on the same carriageway at 7.30am which caused further delays.
A Highways Agency spokeswoman confirmed there had been a crash involving two cars and a lorry at 5.18am.
She said they had closed two lanes on the southbound carriageway in order to clear the road but said it was fully reopened by 6.35am.
The spokeswoman said the crash involving the three cars between Junctions 10 and 10a was cleared within 10 minutes and delays were minimal.
West Midlands Police spokeswoman Deb Edmonds said: "We were called at 5.30am to a crash involving three vehicles - two cars and a van. The middle and outside lane are blocked."
She was unable to say the makes of the vehicles or whether anyone had been injured.
West Midlands Ambulance service spokeswoman Suzie Fothergill said they did not attend either crash.
