M6 Toll link with M54 is closer

Plans for a £300 million link road between the M54 and M6 Toll have taken a step forward as it emerged that councillors are set to back the project.

Long-standing plans drawn up by the Government's Highways Agency offer three options for a link road to ease congestion on the A460 and boost business links between Staffordshire, the Black Country and Shropshire.

Two of the options would see a new road created between Featherstone and Hilton Park. But South Staffordshire Council has said the third option of directing traffic to the M6 would be the "least damaging in environmental and social terms".

The full council will meet on Tuesday to endorse the option, with the council admitting it was likely to be successful in opposing it.
